Nail Repair Saviours

Hi everyone! I'm very excited to share these 2 products with you today as they have injected life back into my ruined nails. I'll just give you a (very brief) history of my nails- for 20 years I used to bite them right down to the quick and no amount of nasty tasting nail biting treatment would deter me from nibbling away. However, in 2011 I literally woke up one day and decided that I was never going to bite my nails ever again and since then, I never have.

However, since I started my full time job 3 years ago, tapping away on the keyboard and hammering buttons on the telephone has done my nails no favours at all. My once strong, natural nails have suffered every nail ailment going from ridges to snapping to peeling and flaking (attractive, I know).

I have tried numerous nail treatments but until now I had failed to find one that really works. As a result, I had resorted to covering my horrific nails with acrylic tips which has further weakened my natural nails. Here is how I have finally restored my nails:

ORLY Calcium Shield- This has been a life saver for me and has significantly reduced nail peeling. I have to admit, I'm pretty impatient and I did expect instant results. However, I only started to notice a difference 3-4 weeks in. I applied 2 coats at the start of each week and then removed with non acetone remover and reapplied. It is also supposed to act as a base coat but I'm not sure I would recommend it for that as I found that the nail polish slipped off when I applied it over the top of this product.

CND Rescue RXX- This product contains Keratin and jojoba oil- the protein in Keratin bonds to strengthen your natural nail. For best results, CND recommend applying this to bare nails twice a day for 4 weeks for optimal results. I have followed this recommendation exactly and my nails have definitely grown and strengthened within the 4 weeks. It is a great all rounder that keeps your nails looking healthy.

Have you tried either of these products? What would you recommend to restore damaged nails?

Monthly Favourites

I can't believe it's almost the end of May. Where is this year going?! Here is a round of my favourite products this month so far:

Garnier Summer Body Lotion Sun-Kissed £ 7.79- I'm one of those people who just doesn't get along with fake tan no matter what shade or brand. I've tried everything from St Moritz to St Tropez and I always come out looking like an Oompah Loompah. Not good. However, as it's approaching Summer and my skin needs a little bit of colour, I picked up this little beauty in Boots last week. Natural and buildable and it smells absolutely gorgeous!

Wella SP Color Save Bi Phase Conditioner- I bleached my hair for the first time this year and as I expected, my hair has been extremely dry. I spritz this through wet hair every morning and it leaves
my hair so soft and shiny. It's a little bit pricey for a leave in conditioner (I paid £14) but it's currently on sale here.

Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask £23- possibly my most favourite new product! I really struggle
to find face masks that don't disrupt my terribly oily skin. This product is perfect. I do break the rules a little bit though as it's a '10 minute mask'- I apply this before I go to sleep and let it soak in overnight. I wake up with the softest skin!

Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil £34- I know, I know...£34 for a body oil?! Definitely worth the price though as it has multiple uses and lasts for ages. I use this as a body oil, hair oil and even rub it into my nails. It's also great to pop a few drops into your bath for extra relaxation.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Ole Flamingo and Frambourjoise- these are my current 'go to lipsticks'. I use Frambourjoise for daily wear and Ole Flamingo to add some glamour for a night time look. I do love the matte finish but it is a little bit drying on the lips!

Orly Calcium Shield- my beautician introduced me to this product after acrylics left my nails in a sorry state and I'm really glad that she did. You apply two coats at first and then leave it for a week before repeating the process until you have beautiful, strong nails.

What products do you love this month?

NOTD

If you follow me on Pinterest you will already know that I am absolutely obsessed with nail polish and nail art. My obsession began after I stopped my life-long nail biting habit and decided that, as a reward, I would treat myself to 200+ nail polishes (any excuse, right?!). This is the look I am rockin' on my nails right now:
